IABM Executive Summit Series (New York)
Thursday May 9th, 10am - 2pm
Hilton Midtown, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10019
Our Executive Summit series bring together the most influential and visionary thought leaders from broadcast and media companies and the world’s best technology suppliers to collaborate and discuss key trends, opportunities and disruptors in an open, non-commercial forum.
Disaster Recovery – Are you equipped to defend against all the risks?
Disaster recovery (DR) has been one of the cornerstones of the brick and mortar M&E business. Now DR seems to be all about IT/Digital Disruption, which is far from reality. Natural disasters, fires, planned attacks, ransomware, and disgruntled employees can go beyond the traditional ‘security’ of redundant signal-flow chains and dual power supplies within a facility.
Due to shrinking margins and diluted viewership, DR often seems to be a priority only if there is left-over budget or if the risk management consultants managed to convince the CFO of the need! These same DR concerns apply to suppliers – a loss affecting software/hardware product development/delivery processes could result in reduced future business.
In our new world of global partnering, DR needs to be addressed as a community concern in which offerings work better together from a DR perspective. The IABM Executive Summit in New York City has a mix of industry experts, suppliers and end users to examine disaster recovery needs and options from an M&E perspective.
Agenda
A Global Snapshot of Business and Technology Trends - Presented by Stan Moote, CTO, IABM
Examines the most recent drivers of change in the global broadcast and media industry and how these are translating into a shift in demand for media technology, from the deployment of cloud technology and remote production, to the adoption rates of artificial intelligence and blockchain.
The Cost of Doing Business: Real-time Disaster Recovery - Presented by Liz Davis – Director, Media Workflow Group–Media & Entertainment, Diversified
Disaster Recovery is a term that has evolved in the Media & Entertainment industry over the last few years. Iron Mountain and LTO was the brain trust. But, as we become more “one world”, how can we ensure that disaster recovery is accessible and efficient across the globe? What does the cloud offer, and how tangible? And to be truly a disaster recovery option, what is the ROI in our libraries? Liz’s presentation addresses the need for library reassessment as it relates to cost effective measures for content retention for truly real-time disaster recovery.
A Well-Architected Network is Key - Presented by Malik Khan, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman, LTN Global
Providing disaster recovery against both fiber or satellite failure comes down to a well-architected network. Malik will discuss two cases: a station destroyed by the devastation of a hurricane, and a major tier one Internet provider’s network that had a substantial and long-lived failure. Malik will present the impacts due to these failures and describe protection techniques assuring connections are resilient.
Disaster Recovery case study - Presented by Mike Palmer, CTO, Masstech
Mike understands DR in detail and will give a case study on a large content distributor’s best practices. Mike will also describe a number of options to provide optimal content backup solutions, including cloud, hybrid and on-prem architectures that include options for seamless performance, automatic fail-over and cold fail-over workflows.
Panel Discussion - Disaster Recovery – What’s Practical, What’s Not?
Stan will question David and Scott on the credible aspects of DR including live events and cloud services. The presenters will also join in to answer attendee questions.
