Background
In both 2006 and 2008 the IABM led a collaborative project amongst supplier members to dimension and scope the global market for broadcast and media technology products and services. The work has been widely acclaimed as simply the most authoritative analysis of the sector available. It is used extensively by corporate management in suppliers, financial and investment analysts and many marketing professionals to improve both understanding and decision making.
Demand from members is such that the IABM was asked to undertake an interim update of the study in 2009 ahead of the anticipated biennial renewal in 2010. Originally we had planned to simply produce a supplement to the original study but given the extensive changes made to each chapter, the decision was made to produce a full updated report. Despite the desire to review the structure of the market segmentation, we have kept the 2008 product types, sub-segments and segment structure for this 2009 update as from an analytical standpoint it would have been erroneous to modify the segmentation when the market sizing is being remodelled using interview and financial data in the absence of a full data submission. The purpose of this 2009 study is to update the findings and conclusions of the 2008 study to reflect changed market and economic conditions.
