HeadlineKodak Celebrates Its Support Of The Motion Picture Industry As Official Partner Of Cannes Film Festival For 21st Consecutive Year
Article
For the 21st consecutive year, Kodak will be the official partner of the Cannes Film Festival and sponsor of the Camera d’Or prize, awarded to the year’s best feature-length film submitted by a first-time director. Several senior Kodak leaders will be in attendance throughout the 12-day festival to mark another successful year for motion picture film, which includes the launch of a Kodak’s new film platform, VISION3, and several advancements in the realm of image enhancement technology.

On hand will be Laurent Dartoux, the new general manager of Kodak’s motion picture business in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, vice president Entertainment Imaging. Prior to this appointment, Dartoux was general manager of Kodak’s worldwide Film Capture business.

Kodak continues to endorse the prestigious Camera d’Or prize, the second most significant award at Cannes, after the Festival’s Palme d’Or. The winner of this year’s Camera d’Or will receive 50,000 euros worth of Kodak 16mm or 35mm color negative film.

Kodak puts special emphasis on the promotion and distribution of features from first-time filmmakers. And, to ensure consistent support of the Camera d’Or prize, Kodak provides additional aid, through product donations, to young directors through its partnership with Cinefondation, whose main objective is to garner recognition for young filmmakers worldwide by presenting their films at Cannes and to facilitate their professional training and placement within the industry.

Kodak also places high value on the short film category, both as its own art form and as a steppingstone to full-length features. For the fifth year in a row, the Kodak Discovery Prize for Best Short Film at the International Critics’ Week will showcase an international selection of short films, with the winner receiving 3,000 euros worth of Kodak motion picture film products.

Kodak also joins forces with the Short Film Corner at Cannes, helping to bring together international buyers and distributors of short films with new and independent filmmakers at several ‘meet and greet’ receptions. Additionally, the Kodak 2008 short film selection for the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival will be available for viewing at the Short Film Corner, inside the Palais.

Throughout the Festival, Kodak will be hosting its professional clients from around the world in its Hospitality Suite, situated in the heart of the International Village behind the Riviera. With more than 15,000 visitors in 2007, the Kodak “Appartement” remains one of the premiere meeting and networking places at Cannes. Kodak products will also be on display, including the Kodak Digital Cinema Cineserver JMM 3000, utilized this year to screen entries for the Critics' Week competition at the ‘Espace Miramar’ theatre.
