The IABM Boosts Skills In Broadcast Engineering With GBP £20,000 (USD $39513) Award
Article
“Widening the reach of Broadcast and Media Technology Training”
The IABM are offering a GBP £20,000 (USD $39513) award to help a university, college or other training organisation develop a new programme or to expand an existing course for Broadcast Engineering. The Tom McGann Training Award rewards training development and delivery in an industry where highly skilled engineers are becoming scarce.
This award recognises the lifetime of commitment to broadcast engineering by the late Tom McGann who was Chairman of the IABM for many years and a strong advocate of effective training.
Roger Crumpton, CEO of the IABM commented, “As the industry body that represents broadcast and media technology suppliers worldwide, the IABM recognises the need to foster international collaboration between industry and education. In a rapidly developing global market we are committed to ensuring our sector has the skills and knowledge needed to serve its customers worldwide.”
The deadline for applications is 30th June and the award presentation will take place on 8th September at the IBC event in Amsterdam.
The criteria for the award are:
Curriculum - must address the fundamentals of video and audio engineering and underline the technology change issues in the broadcasting and media engineering sector.
Reach – the programme must de delivered to a substantial number of suitable delegates.
Beneficiaries - the award is aimed expressly at engineers and media technologists who would not otherwise be afforded such an opportunity.
Partnership - typically the funding provided by the IABM through this award is partnered by funding from the applicant institution or other third party. This enables the IABM funds to be leveraged by others to create a more valuable outcome.
Competency - evidence of the record of achievement by the institute and by the personnel who will be involved in the course.
Innovation - the successful applicant will demonstrate the use of innovative training tools and methods, in particular, those which take advantage of computer based learning techniques.
