HeadlineNew RFS VP Global Marketing & Strategy: Bringing Core Value
Article
Global wireless technology leader, Radio Frequency Systems, has appointed Eric Mariette to the key role of Vice President of Global Marketing and Strategy.

Commencing 1 May 2008, Mariette assumes responsibility for ensuring that RFS’s comprehensive portfolio of RF solutions is fully visible to the global wireless sector, and that the company’s rapidly expanding solution-set meets the varied demands of the industry.

“By playing a role across the entire RF chain, RFS fulfils a unique position in our industry,” said Mariette. “Very few companies offer the same breadth of technology; and with breadth of technology comes breadth of perspective. Our approach is to look at the ‘big picture’ solution--not just the immediate problem. For example, the challenge of migrating from GSM 900MHz to UMTS 900MHz encompasses a deal more than a choice of antenna; it also introduces interesting co-location interference issues, requiring sophisticated filtering solutions. By having a total system approach, RFS is able to predict what other issues might arise and deal with them before they occur.”

Mariette emphasised that RFS is focused on bringing core value to its customers, which span carriers, OEMs, site installers and enterprise/building owners. In today’s environment of impending convergence, this means the company approaches solutions on a total application, rather than a product, basis.

“Take mobile TV as an example,” Mariette said. “In terms of RFS ‘product lines’, mobile TV spans at least four of them: broadcast, wireless infrastructure solutions, transmission line and also wireless indoor solutions. It also encompasses radio link networks to provide backhaul solutions.

“The day is long gone where we can refer to our deliverables on a product line basis. Our customers need total application solutions, and my role is very much associated with helping to provide the ‘glue’ that entwines all our product offerings into the ideal solution.”

Mariette comes to RFS with 20 years’ experience in sales, marketing and business operations in the telecommunications and IT sector, a great many of those years with communications solutions group, Alcatel-Lucent. His recent roles with Alcatel-Lucent were as Asia Pacific Vice President of Business Support and Operations for the mobile communications and convergence groups, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. There, Mariette was involved in both radio access and consumer application development, equipping him with the global vision, mobile sector knowledge, and solutions-focused experience required for his new position at RFS.

“It’s important to think globally across both the total RFS portfolio and the world. The global wireless communications industry is a very dynamic environment in both cases. It will be my role to help ensure that RFS understands the different markets in different parts of the world. This will help us support the global wireless sector with holistic solutions that leverage our ability as a total RF solutions provider in order to deliver core value.”

Radio Frequency Systems is a global designer and manufacturer of cable, antenna and tower systems plus active and passive RF conditioning modules, providing total-package solutions for outdoor and indoor wireless infrastructure.

RFS serves OEMs, distributors, system integrators, operators and installers in the broadcast, wireless communications, land-mobile and microwave market sectors. As an ISO compliant organization with manufacturing and customer service facilities that span the globe, RFS offers cutting-edge engineering capabilities, superior field support and innovative product design. RFS is a leader in wireless infrastructure.
