Peter Wayne

The Peter Wayne Award for Design & Innovation was inaugurated by the IABM in 1990 in memory of a former Deputy Chairman of the Association, Peter Wayne. Judged by a panel of renowned specialists, the Award is presented to one company and entries are made up of our Game Changer Award Winners from NAB and our Design & Innovation Award Winners from IBC. The award has become highly sought after as recognition of outstanding technical achievement.

The award is presented at the IABM Annual International Business Conference and Awards in December.

2016 Winner

Sony Professional – Sony Media Backbone Hive
Sony Professional’s Media Backbone Hive was the judges’ choice for the 2016 IABM Peter Wayne Award. Reflecting the judges’ comments, John Ive said, “Transforming the traditional hardware and software stack into a more flexible node architecture will give users greater flexibility and therefore access to functionality that might not otherwise have been available to them. This is a significant and unique end-to-end production system using IT cloud-based technology. This architecture does mean it is truly scalable and cost-effective to implement.”

2015 Winner - intoPIX

IntoPIX’s development of TICO lightweight visually lossless compression enables 4K/UHD to be transported over legacy SDI infrastructure and 10GbE networks with the smallest latency and minimal complexity while preserving image quality.
